Ellen was called home to her eternal rest on September 23, 2021. She was the second child of the late Lt. Col. Albert J. Luban, U.S. Army(Ret.) and Helen E. Luban. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she spent her life traveling as an Army Brat with her family to many wonderful locations, such as Germany, England, Thailand, and other stations in the U.S. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Louis N. Weber. She loved the theater and was in many performances throughout her life. She and Lou even met at a theater in Thailand.
Ellen and Lou started dancing with Norm Iglehart in 1991. They were members of the Diamond Wheels, Circulators, Circulating Diamonds, Crabtown Squares, Square Dealers, and the Belair Square Cats. Their motto was "Get Involved" because putting everyone's ideas together can only make square and round dancing better for all. Once they started to square dance, they were truly involved not only with WASCA, but MDSDF, Vasarda and the Nationals. They traveled to their first National Square Dance in 1992 in Cincinnati, Ohio with the Maryland City Maniacs-a group of friends made while learning to dance. They did their first volunteer position with the WASCA Festival Committee in 1992 as assistants to Ann and Andy Giancoli, the Sewing Panel Chairpersons. And, as Lou says, the rest is history. They had continued to volunteer on the Festival Committee for many years and served on any committee that needed help. Her favorites were Fashion Shows and After Party Shows and she was truly a star. They were Festival Directors for WASCA 2004 for “Wearin’ O’ the Green,” the 45th Festival. They were WASCA Presidents in 2006-2007. They were very active with the 49th National Square Dance Convention and worked on several committees, including Business, Youth, Decorations, Publicity and Programing. They were the ARTS Representatives for the WASCA Board.
